Promoting Student Wellness
UC San Diego Student Affairs promotes healthy living in body, mind, spirit and relationships. We know that a healthy and happy student performs well academically and also strives for meaning and purpose in their life. We want you to encourage students to LiveWell at UCSD.
As a UC San Diego Staff or Faculty member, you will likely have contact with students no matter what you do. In your contacts with students we would like you to be aware of the resources for supporting student wellbeing in a variety of areas.

How to Refer Students
The best way to promote wellness in students is by using your relationship with them. You know what matters to them and where they may be struggling. Use your best judgment, but don’t be afraid to suggest the services we have to offer. Remember, a healthier student is a more successful student, worker or intern.
Tips for Referring Students to Wellness Resources
- Use "I" message. For example, "I think it would help your situation to make an appointment with a financial aid counselor."
- Connect the specific problem with the solution.
- Refer them to a specific person.
- Avoid using personality or character words, instead talk about the issue as an objective issue to be solved.
