Center for Ethics and Spirituality

  • The Center for Ethics and Spirituality provides students with secular counseling, discussion, and education programs relating to spiritual, moral, and ethical issues and questions that may arise within the UCSD community of students, scholars, workers, and campus affiliates.
  • Typical resources available through the Center include:
      • Secular counseling by professionals versed in theology, ethics, and spirituality
      • Quarterly lectures through the Burke Lecture Series on issues relating to ethics, spirituality, social norms, and morality
      • Workshops on strategies for recognizing and avoiding cults and high-pressure recruitment.

  • Peace of Mind Workshop (pdf)

    • The Peace of Mind Workshop is a weekly educational workshop for students who want to increase their life skills and their ability to cope with emotions, relationships, conflict and stress. Through the Peace of Mind Workshops, you can learn how to live in the moment, manage your emotions, increase interpersonal skillfulness and identify what is really important to your life. The series includes 6 workshops, covering 4 themes: mindfulness, emotional wisdom, interpersonal effectiveness, and stress tolerance. Each workshop provides an informational overview, handouts and a relaxation exercise.
  • Wellness and Relaxation 101

    • Approaching wellness from a holistic perspective, this introductory course blends practices from ancient traditions with the knowledge of contemporary science. Through experiential exercises, introductory teachings, and brief discussions we will embark upon a guided exploration of tension-reducing skills. What benefits reveal themselves when anxiety is dissolved? You may be surprised. In addition to promoting relaxation while in the group, you will have the chance to develop inner tools using breath, body awareness, meditation, and principles of gentle yoga to enhance functioning in your daily life.

  • Meditation

    • Whether or not you have ever meditated, you may enjoy this sampling of meditation techniques guiding you to the blissful silence behind thoughts. Seated, standing, lying down and moving meditation techniques will be covered. Participants will learn to progress from form meditation to subtle meditation to fine meditation and finally to formless meditation. Experience the meditator, the subject of meditation and the process of meditation becoming one.

    • Time to work on your fitness? FitLife is here for you!
  • Chakra Workshop
    • Within our bodies there are focal points of energy called Chakras. There are seven chakras located throughout the body, each with their own unique attributes and characteristics. This workshop will be an introduction to the chakra system and will include asana, breath and guided meditations. This class is suitable for practitioners with previous yoga experience. Please bring a sweatshirt and socks or a blanket.
  • Yoga
    • Hatha Yoga: For centuries, people have practiced yoga to maintain their physical and spiritual well being. This Eastern science can help you with your fitness and weight management goals and assist with injury prevention and stress relief. The practice of Hatha yoga increases vitality, concentration and a sense of well being through the use of body postures and breathing techniques. All levels are welcome. You must provide your own yoga mat.
