Continuity & Emergency Services

  • Emergency Guide: Contains essential phone numbers and what to do in case of a Fire, Earthquake, Biological spills, Needlestick/Exposure to blood or body fluids, Radiation spill, Chemical spill, Acts of violence, Personal injury, Evacuation considerations for people with disabilities, Utility failure, and Bomb threat.

  • CERT (Campus Emergency ResponseTeam):Join UCSD’s Emergency Response Team (CERT), and be prepared to help yourself and others in a crisis. Membership is open to students, faculty and staff.  CERT members also participate in non-emergency projects that improve the safety of the campus community, including role-playing in campus emergency preparedness exercises and becoming familiar with campus emergency resources.

  • Triton Alert (Emergency Notification):  Triton Alert is an emergency notification system that sends a text and/or voicemail to your phone. It reduces the confusion that many experience during an emergency by providing reliable information to an accessible source. All members of the UCSD community are eligible including, faculty, parents, staff, students and visitors.

  • LiveWell Foods

    • LiveWell UC San Diego has partnered with UC San Diego Housing*Dining*Hospitality's Registered Dietitian Becky McDivitt to present featured healthy meals and snacks called “LiveWell Foods.” Every day at participating dining halls, a LiveWell food will be featured as a lunch or dinner special. Choosing LiveWell foods is an important part of maintaining your physical well-being.
  • RD in da House program

    • Part of being a resident on campus means eating good and feeling great. To assist with this, you have access to your very own professional Registered Dietitian: HDH’s RD Becky McDivitt. You’ll see a lot of her around campus for RD in da House program, when she visits Dining restaurants to chat, introduce healthy snacks, and offer nutritional advice.
    • Reducing your meat intake just once per week improves your personal health AND the health of our planet!

  • Intramurals
    • Flag football, coed inner tube water polo, dodgeball, softball, volleyball, and more! Join a team at any level of competition and have some fun exercising! The Intramural Sports program at UCSD is your home base for recreational team sports activities. For the past 30 plus years, our program has established deep campus roots as a reliable and primary source for fun and good times through sports participation.

    • Martial Arts, Aquatics & Surfing, Gymnastics, Dance and more! Classes are affordable, fun, and conveniently located around campus.

Student Health Services

  • FITSTOP

    • The Student Health Advocates (SHAs) provide free fitness assessments each quarter during weeks 2-10 every Monday and Wednesday, 7-9pm on a walk-in basis. The test includes blood pressure, heart rate, percent body fat, flexibility, cardiovascular health, abdominal strength and upper body strength. The check-in table is located on the second floor of RIMAC next to the women’s locker room.
  • Sexual Health Info Session

    • During the fall, winter and spring quarters, Sexual Health Info Sessions are offered by our Health Education Department. Both men and women are encouraged to attend the class, and it is required for women prior to their first requesting a primary exam, STD screening, or for first-time birth control prescription. Sexual partners are welcome to attend as well.

  • Nutrition Counseling

    • During academic quarters, we provide nutrition counseling through our registered dietitian and dietetic interns. This service includes a computerized assessment of your nutritional requirements and follow-up visits as needed. If you do not have SHIP, there is a $20 fee per visit. Make an appointment online or call Central Scheduling at (858) 534-8089.
  • Student Health Advocate's outreach programs:
    • Freshmen 15: Fact or Fiction?
      • Students will learn about portion control and how to incorporate a circuit training program at home.
    • Nutrition Jeopardy
    • Ever wonder what type of fat raises good cholesterol? Students will have fun playing the famous TV game show while learning valuable nutrition information.
    • Cooking with SHAs
      • Learn how to cook quick and inexpensive meals. Includes a cooking demonstration and delicious samples, plus healthy recipes to take home with you.

  • Body Comp Analysis
    • Student Health Service uses a Tanita Body Composition Analyzer (BCA). Utilizing bioelectrical impedance analysis, this machine calculates a person's percentage of body fat. High body fat percentage is directly correlated with increased risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. We are now offering students the opportunity to have their body fat percentage* measured using the Body Composition Analyzer.
  • Circuit Training at Home
    • Are you limited on time to exercise? You can do circuit training in the comfort of your own home! This is not meant to replace your exercise routine, but it is a great way to get in some physical activity during a study break or in between classes.
  • Weight Management Group
    • We offer a Weight Management Group for students during academic quarters. A dietitian, a psychologist and a physician facilitate the weekly meetings that focus on diet, exercise and behavior modification. These meetings are free to registered students. Walk in - no appointment is needed!
